Greetings Fellow Boomer Babes!
It’s Saturday the 8th of September and I’m posting this from my new home in Texas! We arrived last week and we’re still getting unpacked and settled. My computer was just reconnected yesterday - just in time for me to introduce you to my friend and fellow author; CAMY TANG. Camy has written a special post for us today I’m sure you’ll enjoy. Be sure to check out Camy’s debut novel; SUSHI FOR ONE I thoroughly enjoyed it and think you will, too!
My Boomer Babe Hero
I’m so excited to be blogging here today! Allison’s letting me sneak in, even though I’m not technically a Boomer Babe, I’m GenX.
However, I want to take this opportunity to write a tribute to a Boomer Babe in my life who has shaped my faith over the years.
God led me to my church through one of my roommates, and I originally joined the church specifically to work with the youth group. (Yup, God called me to work with teens. No one was more surprised than me!)
After attending for a while, I felt God urging me to find a mentor, or a discipler. I asked the mother of one of the teens, Miki Matsumoto, who graciously said yes.
We met for several years, going through the book of Romans. She modeled a love for the Word that I’ve kept close to my heart ever since. She listened to my fears and frustrations as a single woman, prayed for me, and gave me both practical and spiritual advice.
She heard all my self-esteem issues when I started dating my husband (affectionately nicknamed Captain Caffeine). She counseled me on setting boundaries, on building communication skills, on learning to compromise.
Being Asian, my parents were very modest about things like sex. I learned about the birds and the bees from books, my peers, and school. I don’t think I even said the S-word out loud in their presence until I started college. Miki filled that gap with frank advice on sexuality for a young Christian woman, both before I started dating and after I’d entered into a steady relationship with Captain Caffeine.
When I got married, Miki was my Matron of Honor.
We’ve kept our close relationship over the years, even though she’s no longer my discipler and I don’t meet regularly at her house anymore. However—especially since I work with her kids in the youth group—she’s still involved in my life and invites us over for great home-cooked meals every so often.
She strengthened and encouraged my faith, and continues to do so. She was completely behind me when I started writing professionally and is thrilled that my debut novel has come out.
The life lessons I learned at her kitchen table are in Sushi for One (although I’m not quite like my heroine, Lex! LOL). You also might find her name snuck in there somewhere!

I alwasy enjoy hearing how one woman can make such a difference in a younger woman’s life. Did , or does Miki have a mentor?
Tell us a little more about your book.
Thanks for having me here, Allison!
Dotsie, Miki did have a mentor when she was younger, although her name escapes me. To find out more about my book, I invite you to visit my website:
