Top Ten Boomer Trends

Baby boomers are in the midst of another life stage. As with past life stages, they are shaking things up and making midlife societal changes that come as no surprise to me. But maybe that’s because I have my finger on the pulse of this spirited generation and realize what the sheer number of us can do at any crossroad. Seventy-eight million men and women, aged 44 – 62 can certainly impact how the latter years are embraced.

While it’s hard to put boomers in a box, even a very large one, it’s possible to see what the current trends are among this generation. Here’s Dotsie Bregel’s Top Ten List of Baby Boomer Trends.

• Working longer
• Re-invention
• Maintaining Youthfulness
• Health Management
• Righting Relationships
• Traveling
• Going Green
• Working and Playing Online
• Getting Organized
• Volunteering

What’s interesting about this list is that past generations didn’t have the tools needed for some of these considerations. Since boomers are healthier, wealthier and better educated than prior generations, they have much to look forward to in the latter years.

Do you fit within any of these trends?

Dotsie, as a writer, a lot of my work is done online — researching publications/publishers, accessing writer’s guidelines, submitting work, staying up-to-date on publishing news, and interacting with others in the business, etc. Since there is so much information “out there”, it can be a challenge to balance those activities with actual writing time. The online benefits are great, though — so thankful for all the resources out there.

I barely fit in this box (will be 44 in October) although I’m definitely more boomer than genX! Several of these hold true for me:
    • Re-invention (you know, the “what do i want to do with my life” phase, all over again!)
    • Righting Relationships
    • Going Green
    • Working and Playing Online (like Cheryl, this seems to come with the territory)
    • Getting Organized (for today, anyways)

Love your list. I agree with all of them. I’m 64…in between boomers and builders…does that make me a bloomer?

Widowhood has me in a new terrain. Reinvention is my challenge. After being with my husband incessantly the last month of his life I came to appreciate being alive. we were on the cancer floor.

I am forever changed. I get up thanking God for this day of life. Being a good day, a rough day, or a seemingly nothing day………..it’s a day of life and I rejoice in it.

Love your website. I will return. Good stuff

Kay, you are just beyond the boomer years, but we’ll adopt you!

Sorry to hear you’re recently widowed. Gosh, how hard it must be. And the fact that you’re still praising God speaks of your faith.

May you somehow find what you need to fill the emptiness you’re experiencing since the death of your hubby. Be brave and keep asking God what His reinvention plan is for you. He will listen and answer.
