Searching for the Next Study

For a couple years now, I’ve been doing the Women of Faith Study Guide Series. They are excellent studies to do on your own or with a group. I chose to do them alone in the morning during my prayer time. The studies I’ve done are:

Giving God Your All

Contagious Joy

Receiving God’s Goodness

Discovering God’s Will for Your Life

Living Above Worry and Stress

Encouraging One Another

Managing Your Moods

Cultivating Contentment

Tell me, is there even one you can’t relate to? These are studies that I highly recommend. The Women of Faith who you meet on the tours do the Forewards and share personal thoughts throughout each book.

But here’s my problem, I’m ready to move on to another series, or something different to do during the mornings. Can any of you wise women recommend something? Thanks!

Love, love, love Breaking Free and Living Free by Beth Moore. Breaking Free is more demanding (requires about 45 minutes a day), but I went through it twice this past year, once by myself and once with a group of special ladies. Life changing. And I fell hopelessly in love with the book of Isaiah. Living Free takes far less time, but enriching as well.

And that’s my wisdom for the day.

And, yes, Dostie, in response to your comment on Friday: My teens have way big hearts. They’re very much teenagers with all the waves of mood swings and hints of self-centeredness (much like their mother, I’m just a little more sophisticated), but I really like who they are. And I can’t wait to see what Jesus is going to do with their lives.

Isn’t it fun to love your kids?!

Thanks. I just wrote down Living Free and will check it out the next time I’m at B&N. I appreciate your help!

Dotsie, I highly recommend Beth Moore Bible studies, too. Her indepth studies do require quite a bit of time so I actually divide each day’s reading/work into two different days. The two I’ve done most recently are Stepping Up (A Journey through the Psalms of Ascent) and Believing God (Experiencing a Fresh Explosion of Faith). If the indepth studies are done in a group, there are dvd lessons by Beth, but I think the studies can be done without the dvds and still be beneficial. Her studies are wonderful.

One of Beth Moore’s that I just bought for my daughter is one that probably fits a personal quiet time better than the indepth ones. It is: Jesus - 90 Days with the One and Only. I haven’t done this particular one but did do the indepth Jesus one. I bet this less indepth version will be wonderful, too. Good luck deciding on one!

Okay, so Beth Moore it is. I love that title, 90 Days with the One and Only. That appeals to me.

Thanks ladies. I hope this post is helpful to hers who are considering drawing nearer to Him.

    dotsie,
would those women of faith studies be good for a group, esp. of women who are rather new to the discipline of study? I’m looking for something to do with a group of my neighbors next fall (this year we did my book Oxygen which is a devotional, which they liked–but there was very little homework except to read a bit and try some spiritual practices.)

I’m reading Jesus The One and Only right now. It’s a tremendous book.

I did Breaking Free several months ago - very time consuming, but a beautiful study. Since then, I purchased the “Beth Moore Collection” of seven (I think) of her books, and am reading through them one-by-one as part of my morning quiet time. Each one is so in-depth and personal - I feel so much better acquainted with the Bible, Biblical times, and with each disciple she focuses on in the books.

Each book has been my favorite as I read through it.

Keri, I think they would be great for a group. Just knkow there are lots of references to the Bible. Lots of reading passages.

You can usually find them at Sam’s Club for dirt cheap. Why don’t you get one and see waht you think before suggesting it.

Looks like Beth Moore’s the answer. Thanks Tracy. That’s how I felt about the Women of Faith series. There are more of them that I could do, but just thougth I’d try something different.

I devlop my own studies, both for myself and the Bible study group I lead. So, I honestly can’t be of any help here. But it has been interesting to read what others are looking at.

Wow, good for you. I didn’t think to do that. I often read verses pertaining to the same topic, but never considered creating my own. Do you publish these things? If not, you should consider doing that.

Thanks ladies. I’m going to B&N to look for 90 Days and/or Living Free. I’ll let you know what I come up with.
