Mrs. Texas 2008 is Bobbie Jo Compton

“Imitated but never duplicated, “Mrs. America” remains the first and still the foremost competition for married women. This renowned national competition is devoted to emphasizing that America’s 65 million married women are extraordinarily beautiful, poised, articulate, and versatile.” So reads the declaration on the official web site for Mrs. Texas. I agree.

What a wonderful experience to be one of five judges for the 2008 Mrs. Texas Pageant held last night in Southlake, Texas. It was a tough decision. The 28 contestants were all accomplished women. The winner, Bobbie Jo Compton, hails from Bayou City, Texas. Her husband and two children were so proud of her. I found it especially significant that on her pages in the show program, she chose to include this scripture: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21. The Compton family attends Lakewood Church in Houston.

Bobbie Jo’s heart is clearly with her family and championing the sanctity of marriage. I’ll be sharing more about Bobbie Jo and her story in coming weeks as she prepares to head to Tucson, Arizona in September to compete for the title of Mrs. America – the only nationally televised pageant for married women in the USA. The winner of Mrs. America will go on to compete for the title of Mrs. World.

(As an FYI, the 2008 Mrs. World pageant is this evening, June 29 and is being held in Sochi, Russia.)

If I can get the photo to upload you’ll see Bobbie Jo, Bobbie Jo’s mother, Barbara and me. I’m not sure who was more excited, Bobbie Jo or Barbara. It was a blessing to me when Barbara shared that she was only fifteen years old when she gave birth to Bobbie Jo and that Bobbie Jo’s father died shortly thereafter. As a single mom, it wasn’t easy for Barbara. I am honored to have the opportunity to write what I hope will be an inspiring human-interest story on their journey. I’ll keep you informed as that freelance project progresses.

Have a blessed Sunday, and congratulations Bobbie Jo!

Awe shucks, Eva. I really wish we could see the photo of Bobbie Jo! She’s the lovely one, but it’s her heart that is even more lovely. And yes, the “Mrs. Texas” means they are all married. :-)

One correction, Bobbie Jo has two children, not three.

I want to thank you for taking time out of your weekend and judging the Mrs. Texas Pageant. I was one of the contestants and agree that Bobbie Jo will do awesome at being an advocate for the sanctity of marriage. She deserved the crown and she will make a fantastic queen for 2008. Bobbie Jo is a beautiful woman inside and out. Her smile was contagious and her attitude was exemplary. Best of luck to her.
