I saw the Grinch last night at starbucks. . .

The GrinchI was sitting at Starbucks enjoying a Peppermint Hot Chocolate (w/half the chocolate, please) when I saw him.

A large, green hairy person with a poochy stomach and large hairy hands and feet walked through the door.

It was the Grinch!

I asked him if I could take a picture of him with my phone while he waited for his frappuchino. He wrinkled his mouth and nose, and scrunched his eyes and said, “hooo dee ho, shuuuure.”

I took his picture. When I sat down I realized I hadn’t saved the picture, so like a stalker I aimed it his way every few minutes. He roamed through Starbucks. I laughed out loud at the reactions of the 20somethings sipping their Lattes and munching on their lemon pound cake.

It was delightful.

So, maybe you think I’m going to tie this in to a moral or a lesson. After all, we have to watch out for that Grinch spirit. That’s true, but. . .

I just want to savor an unexpected moment of pure fun.

When I walked through the door of Starbucks I expected music. I expected good conversation with friends. I expected the odor of freshly brewed coffee.

But the Grinch who stole Christmas? In Starbucks? Holding two Grande cups of coffee, one for him and one for the Mrs?

That, I didn’t see coming and it made my night.

I guess that’s what I hope for you, and me, this Christmas. Unexpected moments where you can’t help but laugh out loud. Snippets of time that you’ll never get back. Pure fun or joy or silliness or even tears shed for all the right reasons.

I hope you have a Merry Christmas, boomer friends. The next time you and I talk Christmas will be over. I pray that something delightful and unexpected comes your way.

So, as the Grinch says, have a sooperhoover holidaze.

And from me, I ask that the most amazing Savior, Jesus Christ, pour out joy and hope and laughter in your heart and home this Christmas.

PS: I wanted to share my pics, but my PC is down and my cord doesn’t work with my laptop. If I figure it out, I’ll show you. My Grinch was so much better than the one I shared above!

Merry Christmas, Suzie! I hope that cute Grinch doesn’t come to your house for Christmas. :)

I hope he does. He was hilarious. He was an actor at the Muskogee Castle Christmas celebration. I would love for him to entertain my kiddos. They would get a kick out of him.

Bless you, sweet Suze, for this glimpse into fond memories. I loved watching the Grinch at Christmas time. Let’s all pray for those “unexpected moments” that make us realize how blessed we are. Love you oodles.

“Unexpected moments” …hmmm…I’ve been talking with a friend on how to enjoy those moments with my family this Christmas. My dad turned 75 today, and I know things will change in the next 5-10 years with my parents. Hopefully not, but realistically they will. So as I prepare to board a flight from Texas to Florida tomorrow, I’ll be looking for those “unexpected moments” along the way — moments that I can share with the old folks at home :-)

Merry Christmas to all the Boomer Babes Rock! Bloggers and readers!

I think its easy to lose that childlike wonder. Life can get so hard or so complex. But every day I am surrounded by a miracle of some sort. Every day there is an opportunity to laugh, if I see it. Sixteen years ago when I had cancer, I remember thinking that my greatest loss would not be my hair, or my breast, or even my life, near as much as it would be if I lost my joy or the ability to poke fun at life, even in the midst of cancer.
I’m right there with you, Karen. My dad is 73. My mom is 69. My FIL is 72, and my MIL is 68. As they get older, I fear many things, or I get annoyed at times at things that I cannot fix. Perhaps I should take my own advice (or yours) and concentrate on the good moments that I have with them.

Great post Suzie. You have such a good outlook. Sometimes we do well to just let ourselves be surprised by those unexpected moments. BTW, the Grinch is my all-time favorite Christmas movie.
