Hallmark Cares about Boomers

This year, several books have been published about marketing to baby boomers, boomer women in particular. It seems that Hallmark Cards, Inc. is paying attention and is on the cutting edge. Let me tell you why.

Last Thursday, I spent the day at Hallmark Headquarters for their first ever Blogger Conference. Seven people from around the country were invited to a behind the scenes tour and a day with the CEO and President, Product Manager, Trend Expert, Publicity Manager, Artists, and Writers. I was most grateful to be invited. I will never look at a greeting card the same again. They could have put their Hallmark crowns on our heads because they treated us like such queens.

While it was captivating to see and hear all the work that is involved with creating their products, it was equally exciting to know they wanted to hear from us. I hope I represented us well. I shared hot boomer topics on our behalf and they were all ears.

One of the highlights of the day was learning about the creation of their new line which is boomer focused, Journeys.

Please visit and browse and give some feedback.

I’m curious to know what topics you may have shared on behalf of boomers. Do you think they have any glaring holes in their product line? Do you like their products? Do you buy them? Where do you buy your cards and what motivates you to make the purchase?

The Hallmark website doesn’t seem to be working right now so I haven’t seen the Journeys line yet, but I do like to buy cards at Hallmark. They have a great variety of beautiful cards, and I like their Gold Crown Rewards system where you earn points towards dollars off certificates. It actually “pays” to shop there!

Glad to hear you are a Hallmark fan. I was impressed with their company. Everyone was warm and friendly.

Please stop back and check out their line at http://www.hallmark.com/journeys/. It should be back up soon.

Sorry to say the Hallmark site is down. Will try back later.

Next day and the site’s still down. :(

Once in a blue moon I pop into Hallmark. I first discovered singing cards there and fell in love, buying several for friends. I’ve even put chocolate bars into a couple and sent off - they have PMS bars and (I think) menopause bars.

Typically I buy cards at the grocery, but Hallmark always has the little extras (like the chocolate) to add to the cards.

I love those singing cards. I’ve bought several and received a couple. It’s fun to open them up for a boost when walking through a room while home alone.

Our CVS now sells Hallmark Cards. I’m so glad. I like them so much better than American Greetings.

The Hallmark site is lovely, and user friendly, but isn’t it sad how socially acceptable the sin of homosexuality is, to the point of being celebrated and commemorated by Hallmark under the category “Coming Out”. (Romans 1:18-28)

Interesting comment, and thanks for looking at the line.

My thought was that these people are human beings too, many of whom are hurting because they don’t always feel accepted. While I don’t promote homosexuality, I still love those I know that are homosexual.

Hallmark is stepping into areas that were once never spoken about. This is something they spoke about at the conference. I recall an uncle having cnacer when I was little, and I really don’t think I knew it was cancer until I was an adult. Now we have cards to meet people on their cancer journeys.

I wonder what we’ll be sending cards for in another 30 years…
