Dianne,

I understand your comment about figuring out an author's pattern or formula. I love Gayle Roper's books, however, after reading 2 or 3, they are all similar in pattern. Yet good though.

I have found in the two Jodi Picoult books that I've read that she has a method to her writing but haven't found a pattern. What I like most about her books is the multiple points of view. She really can get into the head of the different characters.

I haven't been reading much fiction lately but it is interesting how we come to read what we do. I really do like to read based on friends recommendations. I also like to read by author. It's very interesting after you've read 3 or 4 books by the same author. Sometimes I start to detect a pattern or formula and lose interest. What I really enjoy is when I can see an author grow in their craft (or even in faith, when it comes to Christian authors) over the years. I was just thinking the same today about Chris Tomlin's music, how much he's grown over the years.

Some of the best books I've read over the past year were those recommended by friends. A friend actually turned me on to Jodi Picoult's work . . . and I really enjoyed My Sister's Keeper.

Interesting topic!
