Adjusting

Hello Everyone,

Cheryll here, guest blogging for Allison while she is off to a Women’s seminar in Florida. I’m here in South Carolina and just finished the third week on my new job. I am trying to adjust, but some days it isnt easy. I am staying in an efficiency suite, just a bedroom with a small kitchen area and the bathroom, while hubby is still in Ohio, trying despartely to sell the house.

Being all alone after 30 years of marriage seemed like a wonderful vacation at first, but it got old real quick. I miss not having anyone to talk to in the evening after work. I miss not having someone to pick up after or remind him to do something, someone to go with me out to eat, to the show, or just sitting around in the evening watching TV with. So I hope that house sells soon and he can move down here with me.

Another big adjustment is getting to know the area. Where is the good grocery store, the Shell gas stations, the library, the best bargains, the local farmers market???

I have been looking at homes and I have to say another adjustment is the prices. Because Charleston is on the ocean, every suburb around it has construction going on. We wanted a small house with alot of land, that is not going to be easy to find down here, not at a price we can afford. You get alot less house for alot more money.

But the one adjustment I have found the very easiest is adjusting to the climate. It is beautiful outside. Even when it rains, it rains warm! The leaves are still green and the sky is usually a beautiful blue. I love waking up, getting ready for work and walking out the door with no jacket on. Its almost October, but I could believe its still July. What great weather. The reason we decided to head south.

The other adjustments will become second nature in time. Thats all it really takes. With anything we do in life, the more often we do it, the more natural the action.

Well thanks for letting me ramble on. I don’t have anyone to talk with in the evenings, so this let me have an opportunity to “vent”. Thanks for listening.

Have a great week!
Cheryll

If it makes you feel any better I’ll come over and sprinkle some crumbs on the chair and throw some socks around. LOL.

I’ll pray that your house sells and you are able to find the perfect home there.

Meanwhile, catch up on your writing or visit blogs and chat online. :)

Cheryll, please let me know if you have questions about the area. My sister lived there for years and now my nephew there. Sending settled feelings your way.

How near the beach are you? I found, moving halfway across the country last winter, that I wasn’t enjoying the new locale nearly as much as I ought. I’ve done that with every move, thinking eventually I’ll see or do “X”. Then left after 10 years and missed some of the best stuff!

Enjoy the local sights and experiences! Find places to take your hunny when he arrives. The last of the baby turtles should be hatching this week, if any are in your area. This is a glorious time to walk the beach at night. Mmmmm!

Thanks for the reminder to get out and live. :)

Yippee…no harsh, cold winters for you! Can I come visit? My hubby is a skier and I love the beaches. I’ll be thinking of you when I have to scrape the ice off the windshield this winter. Smile!
